Roland Martin on Super Bowl-related issues with some off-color of jokes were tweets Sunday night, but his bosses at CNN surely did not find funny.
The move came three days after an clamor aroused from Martin tweet that people should "Smack the ish" of all the fans of a male underwear ad with David Beckham. He also teased a new England Patriots player wearing a pink jumpsuit arrived. "He needs a visit from # teamwhipdatass," wrote Martin.
Gay rights powerhouse GLAAD pushing for CNN to fire Martin. This did not happen, but the disciplinary action shall was taken, and his date should is unclear.
Gay rights groups like GLAAD charged him of tolerating anti-gay violence, and that he had written columns, including one in which has likened of homosexuality to alcoholism. Martin said he just take the first game of football, and later issued an apology for the way he is "any offense", he regretted that he had caused.
In a statement, CNN said:
"[Martin's] tweets were regrettable and offensive. Language that demeans is inconsistent with the values and culture of our organization, and is not tolerated."
"We have been giving careful consideration to this matter, and Roland Martin will not be appearing on our air for the time being."
Martin scored make the controversial tweet (above) during the Super Bowl.
First he was trying to justify his tweets that he was just making fun of soccer. But many people were not buying.
In addition to taking flak invitation by many of his Twitter followers, GLAAD Martin to be fired immediately.
"CNN today took a strong stand against anti-LGBT violence and language that demeans any community,” GLAAD spokesman Rich Ferraro said. “Yesterday, Martin also spoke out against anti-LGBT violence. We look forward to hearing from CNN and Roland Martin to discuss how we can work together as allies and achieve our common goal of reducing such violence as well as the language that contributes to it.”
Martin joined the network in February of 2007 and is a key part of the network’s political programming.
He did not address his suspension on his Twitter, but did post a link to a gay beating victim in a video speaking out.
